Dubai is the ride-hail city: airport to Downtown, Downtown to the Marina, and the Creek where the abra and the metro meet. Abu Dhabi is a Hala trip of 250–350 AED, with the Corniche as the walk. Sharjah is dry: do not carry alcohol in. Fujairah is the east-coast resort strip. Al Ain is hotel bars only. Desert-safari camps are the dunes trip; dress loose, with sleeves for the sun. The notes do not list a national emergency number. Plugs are Type G. Tap water is safe in the cross-table.

The tower skyline the airport-to-Downtown fare is aimed at. Hala is 45–60 AED. Uber is 55–75. Careem private is 60–80.

The canal towers. Hala from Downtown is 35–50 AED. A short 2–3 km hop is 12–18 AED on Hala.

The waterfront walk. Modest dress: no shirtless running, shoulders covered, about knee length. Hala from Dubai is 250–350 AED.

Red ticket, silver card, or gold class. Fares 4, 6, or 8.50 AED by zone. No tourist day pass as of 2026. The same card does the tram, bus, and abra.

The water the abra crosses. The Nol card covers the abra as well as the metro. Night is when the creek reads as a skyline.

The notes do not name a dune field or a camp rate. The pin is only where this photo was taken. It is not a recommended camp. Dress for a safari camp is loose clothes and long sleeves.

East-coast beach resorts. The notes say alcohol is in the hotels, and nightlife is limited.

The notes do not name this road. The photo is the mountain road above Al Ain. In the town, alcohol is hotel bars only, and it is the conservative end of Abu Dhabi emirate.

The tourist dirham is cash or card at checkout and is never in the Booking.com price. International hotels accept unmarried foreign couples. Sharjah is completely dry: do not bring alcohol in, and do not drink there. Public intoxication in every emirate is a criminal offense, including the walk from a bar to a car. Leave from the door in Uber or Careem.

Passport at the kiosk. WhatsApp calls, FaceTime audio, and Skype are blocked.

Same VoIP block. Zoom and Teams still work for meetings.
Same networks
Inside the same price band
Same block on calls. A VPN set up before arrival is the notes' workaround.
Airalo, Holafly, or Nomad before you fly if you must place WhatsApp or FaceTime calls. They usually work and a local SIM usually does not. The notes give an example near 13.50 USD for 4 GB. Data speed is the same network.
Malls: shoulders and knees covered, shorts to the knee. Beach and pool: swimwear there only, cover up when you leave. Abu Dhabi Corniche: modest, no shirtless running. Desert camps: loose clothes and sleeves. Sharjah heritage areas: long pants and a headscarf recommended for women.
Talabat, Deliveroo, Careem Food, Noon Food, InstaShop. You pay the menu price plus the delivery fee. Tip a rider 3–5 AED if you like; it is not required. Restaurant tipping in the cross-table is 10%.
Unmarried foreign couples are accepted in international hotels. Ramadan public eating is discouraged and is not illegal in tourist zones, unlike Qatar and Saudi in the same table. Alcohol: tourists buy at MMI or African+Eastern with a passport and do not need the residence license. Anyone selling you a 500 AED 'license service' is charging for something tourists skip.
The notes are a rules supplement, not a dynasty chapter. What they fix is emirate by emirate: Dubai and Abu Dhabi license venues, Sharjah bans alcohol entirely, Ras Al Khaimah and the smaller emirates are licensed and looser, Fujairah is hotel resorts, Al Ain is hotel bars only.
Do not photograph government buildings or some ports. Being drunk on the pavement is the arrest, not the drink inside the bar. Metro gold class is double fare and less crowded. The blue Nol card is 70 AED and for residents only.
